Anis Uzzaman, PhD, General Partner at Fenox Venture Capital, delivered a keynote address on building a successful startup at the Babson Venture Capital Conference.
The evening commenced with an opening address by Len Schlesinger, President of Babson College, followed with an overview of the venture capital industry in the East Coast from the perspective of Adam Valkin, Managing Director at General Catalyst Boston.
During Anis’s presentation, he highlighted the practical approaches to building a successful startup such as those commonly implemented in Silicon Valley. Some key insights include methods on brainstorming unique business ideas, finding team members, devising powerful marketing strategy, and preparation before approaching investors.
Following the keynote addresses, the audience was entertained by the elevator pitches of five Babson student entrepreneurs, selected by the John and Alice Butler Accelerator. The entrepreneurs presented their business ideas ranging from e-commerce to software applications. The panel judges, made up of Anis, Adam, and faculty members from the Babson entrepreneurship division, provided helpful feedback for improvements on the business plans of the entrepreneurs.
