Anis Uzzaman, PhD, General Partner at Fenox Venture Capital spoke at a Innovation and Entrepreneurship seminar held in Sapporo, Japan, and sponsored by Deloitte Tohmatsu Venture Support Co., Ltd, the US Consulate General in Sapporo, Hokkaido New Business Council and Sapporo Bizcafe. Anis was also invited to another event on the same topic held in Sendai, Japan and sponsored by Deloitte Tohmatsu Venture Support Co., Ltd, the US Consulate General in Sapporo and Makoto (an entrepreneurship organization).
 
During both the presentations, Anis explained that US has been a driver of the world economy over the last several decades with Silicon Valley playing a pivotal role in the nation’s ability to create new businesses. Anis highlighted the key components of the ecosystem in the Silicon Valley that have helped the country maintain economic leadership. Anis emphasized that venture capital firms can be the bridge for large corporations to access the technologies found at startups. Towards the end of his presentations, Anis offered practical measures, as inspired by the entrepreneurial practices in Silicon Valley and US, which could be adopted to get Japan back on the road toward economic growth.
 
At both events, Anis’s speeches were followed by local startup pitches, and networking sessions. The attendees comprise entrepreneurs, students and local business professionals.
